Pursuing design since the age of 17, Abby Bowser is a creative who finds herself trying to cover as much ground as possible. She attributes her early interest in design to electronic music, where the visual and audio experiences are deeply and closely intertwined. Through a Visual Communication Design education at ASU, she has found her footing as a web developer and motion graphics designer, as well as a teacher and mentor for her fellow peers. Abby’s understanding and view of design– or creativity, in general– is that there is nothing more important than having fun and seeing the world through a lens of good. Design aside, she is a writer, novice illustrator, and just happy to be here.
When healthy skepticism evolves, it quickly and dangerously becomes conspiracy theories. 29% of voting-age Americans believe in a so-called “deep state” hidden beneath the U.S. government, signaling a greater issue of mistrust and misinformation. At their core, conspiracy theories perpetuate hatred and delusion. Several famous theories only act to reaffirm racist, white supremacist, antisemitic, or overall paranoid beliefs. No matter how ridiculous or innocuous a theory may seem, they all contribute to the overall problem. Conspiracy theories encourage delusion, drive loved ones away from one another, and have a detrimental effect on one’s psyche. An everyone-is-out-to-get-you worldview is not so easily undone, so it is imperative that we stop the problem at its core with conversations, fact-checking, and a desire for truth.
