The Phoenix Police Department (PPD) has killed around 150 people within the past 10 years.
They are unequivocally the deadliest police department in the country, accounting for the relative sizes of
both the department and their constituency. 20% of the entire city of Phoenix budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year is
spent solely on the PPD ($800+ million dollars).
Despite a DOJ investigation and (years of) promises of reform, there has been no meaningful change in the amount
of violence perpetrated by the PPD. The time has come to defund the PPD, and divest funding into non-violent, crisis
de-escalation services that do not threaten the lives of Phoenix citizens.
