Content moderators protect internet users worldwide from exposure to violent content, but their well-being remains low priority to their employers. The long-term effects of the job are worsened by the harsh conditions imposed by management. Concerns around this situation stem from the lack of regulation and protections for this work, as the majority of employees are low-wage contract workers. These are often outsourced to low-income countries around the world where concerns may not be raised in the same way they would be for an in-house employee.
