Insects have been vanishing globally without much notice. They’ve been under constant threat, pushed out of their homes and into extinction by urbanization, habitat destruction, and pesticide use. In the past 30 years, total insect biomass has dropped 80%.Insects are small and unappreciated which has led to decades of ignoring the threats they’re facing, but they’re deeply important. Bugs are both the largest and most diverse group of animals on the planet, serving as integral pieces of the ecosystem. As they disappear, larger environments suffer on a devastating scale. Humans rely on insects to pollinate crops, control populations, and decompose waste- but without them, environments begin to spiral out of control. Be nice to bugs!
