Silvia Kooinga enjoys the creative process of design and working methodically within specific constraints while breaking rules to create something interesting. She has explored branding, packaging, typography, information, UI/UX, motion, and coding. Silvia has a background in fine art, music, and psychology and often weaves elements and concepts from these disciplines into her designs. She currently lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her husband (Nick), daughters (Nora and Rory), and fur babies (Zaya, Max, and Pluto).
PTSD affects 13 million Americans. It is a long drawn out battle with grueling disruptive symptoms that greatly disrupt patients’ quality of life. Traditional therapy and medication takes years of trial and error. Effective therapies, such as EMDR, exacerbate symptoms and patients will get worse before it gets better.
Current research of psychedelics, specifically psilocybin and MDMA assisted therapy for PTSD, shows drastic improvement in PTSD symptoms, as well as the possibility of remission. Unfortunately, psychedelics are currently classified as schedule one drugs and are attached to heavy social stigma. The medicalization of psychedelic assisted treatment would prevent years of pain and suffering to millions of Americans.
