Vianka Jauregui is a graphic designer at the Luminosity Lab in Tempe, AZ. Her passion for design emerged from two distinct interests – a love for crafting art and a keen interest in advertising. When Vianka isn't immersed in the world of design, she finds joy in various creative pursuits such as drawing, painting, embroidering, cooking, and indulging in anime. She also likes attending art festivals to support local artisans. Creating has always been something dear to her heart, and after graduation she hopes to create amazing designs for businesses throughout Phoenix.
In 2022, Black, Pacific Islander, and Native American individuals accounted for 15.2% of the total U.S. population; however, these same three groups disproportionately represented 42.5% of the unhoused population. This incongruity is a consequence of historic systemic oppression, including colonialism, redlining, and segregation. There are also many modern contributors such as urban camping laws, public prejudice, and lack of access to sufficient sanitation, food, and physical and mental healthcare.
With so much working against the unhoused, the state of homelessness today is a violation of human rights in plain sight. It is only through compassion and connecting with community resources that we can slowly start to fix our broken system and help the unhoused have a fairer chance in life.
