Matea Bernales is a graphic designer from Arizona. She fell in love with photography in middle school and continues to pursue that passion, combined with graphic design in the present day. Using both of these skills, she gained experience in social media branding for non-profit organizations and internship opportunities and is currently earning her B.S. in Visual Communication Design.

Literacy is the essential foundation for learning, effective communication, securing employment, and more. The Covid-19 pandemic has worsened the pre-existing downward trend in academic performance. Specifically, child literacy levels suffered following the pandemic with 2022 data showing reading scores declining for students across all performance levels, particularly impacting 4th graders in the US.
