Friendships are a crucial aspect of daily life that cannot be understated for their importance in fulfilling many of our social needs. Despite its importance in making us live happy, fulfilling lives it has been slowly whittling away over time. Both the amount of friends we have on average and the quality of those friendships has been negatively impacted, dropping sharply in the late 20th century. Less friends means more feelings of social isolation, a decrease in life quality, and even a shortening of life expectancy. Keeping all this in mind, there needs to be more attention to this problem before it continues spiraling, because we shouldn’t be facing the future alone.
