Social Media Censorship towards young teens

Social media censorship towards young teens is a complex issue that balances protecting minors from harmful content while respecting their freedom of expression. Platforms implement content moderation to shield teens from inappropriate material, cyberbullying, and misinformation. However, excessive censorship can limit their ability to engage in important discussions, express creativity, and access diverse perspectives.

But the question is: “How can social media platforms balance protecting young teens from harmful content while preserving their freedom of expression”?

  • Gicelle Quitangon

    gicelle.studio

Gicelle’s approach to design (and life) is defined by a chronic thirst for meaning. This translates to an affinity for stories in all forms– after all, what is an identity if not a story of the past, present and future being told simultaneously? Not only did ASU promise a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, but also the chance to learn stuff! And that stuff, he discovered, when wielded with a pinch of intentionality and a dream can result in effective graphic design. On the precipice of post-grad life, Gicelle is looking for a branding studio (preferably in Portland) to continue learning and telling meaningful stories.

    Anti-Transgender Rhetoric in Political Discourse

Scape-goating in political rhetoric is not a new phenomenon. For centuries, powerful political figures around the world have placed the blame of societal issues on minority groups as means to garner support for their campaigns and ideals. In recent history, the Republican party of the United States has targeted the transgender community in its strategy to reclaim the white-house resulting in an increase of attacks against transgender individuals, verbal, physical, and legal.

With suicide rates up by 72% among trans youth and 50 anti-trans bills passed in 2024, it’s everyone’s responsibility to stay vigilant against the deceptive narratives that are causing overt harm to transgender individuals. The trans community is not a threat, but under threat.

Plant Based Eating Can Prevent Disease

Diet-related deaths account for an estimated 11 million preventable deaths globally each year. Although numerous studies have shown that a plant-based diet can effectively prevent or even reverse diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, stroke, Alzheimer’s, and various cancers, many people still struggle to choose this lifestyle. Several factors prevent the widespread adoption of plant-based eating, including limited accessibility, misconceptions regarding cooking and plant based food affordability, and the negative stereotypes often associated with veganism.

    Digital Privacy

In today’s world, data privacy is a critical issue. Every time we use social media, shop online, or interact with apps, we leave behind a “digital footprint” of personal information, from location data to browsing habits. This data is often collected, stored, and shared without our full knowledge or consent.

The risks are real. Data breaches can lead to identity theft, financial fraud, and reputational harm. While regulations like GDPR and CCPA provide protection, many people remain unaware of their rights.

Data privacy isn’t just about avoiding threats—it’s about controlling your digital presence. Using strong passwords, encryption tools, and being mindful of what we share online helps safeguard our information. Education and awareness are key to navigating the digital world securely.
