Dream Job: Graphic Designer at a design studio
Emalee is a graphic designer completing her final semester of a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, a minor in studio art, and a certificate in marketing. Her work is grounded in print design and brand identity, reinforced by a hands-on and tactile background. She is inspired by design’s ability to communicate, tell stories, and spark conversations, approaching each project with curiosity, intention, and thoughtful structure. Detail-oriented and highly organized, Emalee thrives under pressure and values collaboration as an essential part of the creative process. Through her exhibit work, she explores how intentional visual design can engage audiences and illuminate the realities of the school-to-prison pipeline.
Defined, then Confined
Criminal Justice and Education Inequality
Certain school practices push some students, especially minority students, out of classrooms and closer to the justice system. When punishment replaces support, students miss class, fall behind, disengage, and possibly drop out. Students labeled as “trouble” are more likely to experience police contact and arrest for minor behavior. It’s a pipeline because it forms through repeated decisions, not a single mistake.
