Dream Job: Creative Director shaping global visual narratives

Purvi Thawrani is a Graphic Designer based in Arizona pursuing a B.S. in Visual Communication Design at Arizona State University. Guided by a global perspective, she designs with clarity, intention, and authority. Her work examines identity, culture, and power through research driven visual systems and spatial storytelling. She views design as structure, strategy, and influence, not decoration. Purvi is determined to become a Creative Director shaping global visual narratives and leading work that challenges hierarchy, shifts perception, and leaves cultural impact.

Representation Inequity

Education & Culture

Children’s books shape how young readers understand identity, belonging, and power. Yet representation in children’s literature remains disproportionately centered on white, male, able-bodied, and Western narratives. As the child population grows increasingly diverse, publishing trends continue to elevate certain identities while minimizing or excluding others.

Before children develop literacy, they internalize visual hierarchy through scale, placement, and repetition. Representation inequity is not only about visibility; it influences self-worth, aspiration, and perceived value. This issue reveals how early storytelling quietly constructs social importance and reinforces structural imbalance within a child’s imagination.
