The Risk of Modern Extinction

Environment

The demise of the dinosaurs seems so long ago, yet modern extinction may be right around the corner. Scientists are growing increasingly concerned about current extinction rates. In the age of the Anthropocene, a time in which humans are the largest environmental influence, species are being lost at a rate comparable to past mass extinctions. Biodiversity sustains us, and its loss will have enormous consequences/impact on our lives. It’s the balance that protects our food/water sources, shields us from disease, and cleans the air we breathe. Humans are the primary cause of biodiversity loss, whether it be through habitat destruction,over-hunting, pollution, or any other number of environmental disruptors. Hence, it’s our society’s responsibility to rectify this issue.
